Changing the face of leadership
Green Park's board practice advises at the most senior levels of corporate and organisational governance, in the UK and across international markets.
We are retained by listed companies, banks and financial institutions, private equity houses and their portfolio companies, and sovereign wealth funds, as well as by government bodies, public services and the largest charities and leading civil society organisations, to appoint the leaders who set direction and hold management to account.
Non-executive recruitment is central to what we do: around 200 of our assignments each year are board roles, and we have worked with many of the largest organisations and best-known brands in the UK to help them build boards that are skilled, effective, diverse custodians of capital, heritage and purpose — and critically help the organisation be greater than the sum of their parts.
Our global team is highly experienced in appointing Chairs, Senior Independent Directors and Non-Executive Directors, including the Chairs of Audit and Risk, Remuneration, Nomination, Finance and Endowment Committees, alongside Executive Directors who sit on the board and the trustees who govern non-profit organisations.
The expertise most often sought at the board level includes finance, investment, digital, cyber, government and regulatory connectivity, and audit and risk. Every organisation is different, however, and the skills a board needs vary with its strategy and circumstances. At the heart of effective board work are the abilities to bring both challenge and support, to act as a critical friend, to scan the horizon, to shape strategy, to uphold culture, and to hold an organisation to account against its core purpose.
Many of the leaders we work with build portfolios spanning several sectors, using their skills and stretching their capacity in stimulating and rewarding ways. Those who have built their careers in the commercial world often value the opportunity to contribute what they have learned in a different context.
In the non-profit sector, the majority of roles are unremunerated, though some are not, and these appointments frequently call for more than professional expertise: a genuine passion for a cause or an organisation, personal experience that connects to its purpose, and a breadth of experience across different scales and contexts that deepens the contribution a person can make.
