Green Park’s Local Government Leadership 2018 report analyses ethnocultural and gender diversity of CEO and Chief Officer roles across Local Authorities. The findings highlight the failure of Local Government leadership to diversify.

Black, Asian and minority ethnic (BAME) CEOs represent only 3% of the heads of the UK’s 418 Unitary Authorities, County Councils, District Councils, Metropolitan Boroughs and London Boroughs.

Organisations that are diverse at senior levels deliver improved outcomes and greater value. So it ought to be a strategic imperative for localgovernment to addresses the dismal record ofethno-cultural diversity highlighted in our Local Government Leadership 2018 report. Why, for example, do none of the UK’s Metropolitan Boroughs have a BAME CEO?

Metropolitan Boroughs represent some of the most diverse populations in the UK and yet they have a dismal record when it comes to ethnocultural diversity, with not a single ethnic minority CEO in Green Park’s 2017 and 2018 leadership analysis.
