Shivan Mehta joined Green Park’s Civil Society and Government (CSG) Interim Practice, in 2021 as an Associate Partner specialising in the housing sector. An area in the throes of transformation; Shivan is helping Green Park’s clients to navigate and master the many forces re-shaping the sector, through the attraction, acquisition, and retention of highly skilled executive leaders and interim managers.

Along with expert knowledge of the property field Shivan has an impressive track record recruiting senior leaders and interim managers across the wider public Sector. Alongside housing associations, his clients have included charities, NHS organisations, local & central government, research institutes and education bodies.

Shivan’s in-depth understanding of the Housing sector comes from almost a decade in the industry. Joining a specialist Property recruitment agency as a consultant in 2013, Shivan quickly ascended the ranks to become a Divisional Manager, where he spearheaded the growth of numerous revenue streams across the public sector. This led to him becoming an authority on executive and interim recruitment within estates & facilities, property services and development. Since first working in the sector, it has undergone a huge amount of change and, in addition to recovering from the pandemic, faces several unique pressures.

“There are so many changes happening that have been a long time coming. For instance, there’s the Net Zero agenda, integration of Prop Tech & the Building Safety Bill. There has been a proliferation of arms length companies and more public & private sector partnerships, as organisations look for innovative solutions to deliver services.

One of the key Housing objectives is simple; We need to build more affordable homes. Many RPs have downsized their development ambitions in preparation the building safety changes. Inevitability this impact will be felt in the years to come but the sector is adapting and we are already seeing new innovate delivery models emerge."

Increasing diversity is high on the boardroom agenda for Shivan’s clients. According to Inside Housing’s 2021 Diversity Survey, ‘there is no area of equalities in which we can say the sector’s top jobs are truly diverse enough or reflective of society’. Shivan is helping organisations to fix this through a partnership with leading social housing consultancy, Altair. Together Green Park, Altair plan to drive change in the housing sector through diverse executive appointments.

“Through our partnership with Altair we want to increase representation at the most senior levels of the housing sector. Together, we are committed to working with our housing clients to challenge expectations and change behaviours and to drive a culture shift to more inclusive recruitment and onboarding across the housing sector.”

Green Park have been building diverse, senior leadership teams and mapping diverse talent across the public, private and third sectors for over fifteen years. Our values align with those of Altair who have a similar track record in the housing sector including the setting up of Leadership 2025 - a charity working to make the housing sector more diverse. The partnership will marry housing expertise with multi-sector diversity and inclusion specialists and enable housing organisations to increase their diversity of thought at executive and non-executive levels.

“We are really excited to be working with Altair who have such a strong presence in the housing sector. I’m looking forward to growing our market here and being able to make a real difference to communities through innovative and inclusive leadership. Watch this space!.”
