Independent: Lack of ethnic diversity in top company boardrooms will harm the UK after Brexit, finds study

With the topic of Brexit threatening the future of UK business, an article from the Independent suggests that the lack of diversity in senior managers of top London businesses can only restrain the UK’s business opportunities with the non-European world, specifically with Asia and Africa. Leading UK companies are dominated by culturally alike, white men, which could lead to a constraint of trade deals and partnerships following Brexit.

Raj Tulsiani explains that an “Inability of our leading companies to attract and retain leaders from East Asian and African backgrounds should be a matter of serious concern.”

Government support via mandatory laws could aid the increase in the proportion of ethnic minority corporate leaders. The lack of ethnic diversity in top company boardrooms also suggests a reason for talent of Asian and African background to leave sectors such as technology, and move to the US.
